What is BBL?
BBL stands for BroadBand Light. It is one of the most clinically advanced skin rejuvenation technologies available! BBL utilises multiple wavelengths of light to gently heat the skin, destroying excess pigment (like sunspots or freckles) while stimulating collagen and elastin production for a firmer, clearer complexion.

How does BBL compare to other treatments?
BroadBand Light allows practitioners to use interchangeable filters to target both deep and superficial layers, delivering more consistent, tailored results. BBL incorporates advanced, built-in cooling technology, making it significantly more comfortable than older IPL devices. Variants like BBL HERO also treat large body areas much faster than traditional IPL systems.
What to expect from your BBL treatment
BBL is a versatile treatment that can be tailored to a number of concerns, including pigmentation, uneven skin tone and signs of sun damage. Your treatment begins with a layer of cooling gel applied to the skin. No numbing cream is usually required.
You may notice that the light is bright during treatment, but BBL is generally very comfortable. Most clients describe a warm sensation, with the occasional quick snapping feeling as the light pulses over the skin.
Following treatment, we use the sapphire crystal cooling tip on the hand piece to cool and soothe the treated areas. We then apply appropriate aftercare products to support the skin as it begins to recover.
What to expect after your BBL treatment
If you have pigmentation that has responded to the treatment, you may notice small, coffee-ground-like areas appearing over the following days. This is the pigment coming to the surface and naturally shedding. Other areas may simply appear slightly pink. This is a normal part of the response and will settle as the skin recovers.
One of the advantages of BBL is the minimal downtime. Most clients can return to work and their usual activities straight after treatment, while following the recommended aftercare.
If there is a significant amount of pigmentation, it can take several days for the darker areas to shed and reveal fresher, more even-looking skin underneath. The skin continues to respond after treatment, with the full result becoming more apparent over the following few weeks.
How many sessions of BBL we recommend
For deeper, more established or widespread concerns, we typically recommend a course of 2 to 3 BBL treatments rather than expecting everything to be addressed in a single session. This allows us to progressively target the concern while keeping the treatment plan controlled and tailored to your skin.
